The manifestation of God to man. As well as being the theme of that poem it’s alos the secondary meaning of epiphany in the dictionary.
Some years ago in the United States I met a man who told me that he had had an epiphany. I didn’t know what it meant at the time. I just knew that he was very dedicated to the cause of racial integration. He had had the experience after serious race riots in Los angels when a large number of Korean owned shops had been burnt by blacks because they were angry that the shop owners would not employ them
Then I met a woman called Christina Noble who also had had an epiphany: her’s was about rescuing Vietnamese street children which she has done overcoming all kinds of obstacles.
I don’t expect many of us have epiphanies in that sense.
